Friday Music Club

Things are starting to get back in order.  I have had an extremely busy last couple of weeks at work.  Not only catching up from the funeral leave, but we have been preparing for our National Conference, and since I am the project manager – and this is the biggest project we have every two years – my days have been consumed.

Before my Grandpa died, Mae and a friend of ours and I went to see the movie Across The Universe.  It is a musical using the songs of The Beatles.  It is wondrous fun.  One of the characters is named Prudence.  She is a teenage girl struggling with her sexual identity.  At one point she locks herself into a closet and they crew sings Dear Prudence to her.

I have always been a fan of The Beatles, and Dear Prudence has long been a favorite tune of mine.  But with all that was going on – the emanate passing of my grandpa, the upcoming conference – this song has hit me in a different way.   It is a beautiful song, but the words have  helped sustain me.  They have helped remind me, ” The sun is up, the sky is blue
It’s beautiful and so are you.”

Below are 3 versions of the song.  They are wonderful.  The Beatles, Alanis Morissette, and Siouxsie And The Banshees.

Here is a link to the history of the song — originally written for Prudence Farrow, Mia’s shy sister.  The Lyrics follow the videos.

Dear Prudence

Dear Prudence, won’t you come out to play
Dear Prudence, greet the brand new day
The sun is up, the sky is blue
It’s beautiful and so are you
Dear Prudence won’t you come out to play

Dear Prudence open up your eyes
Dear Prudence see the sunny skies
The wind is low the birds will sing
That you are part of everything
Dear Prudence won’t you open up your eyes?

Look around round round
Look around round round
Look around round round

Dear Prudence let me see you smile
Dear Prudence like a little child
The clouds will be a daisy chain
So let me see you smile again
Dear Prudence won’t you let me see you smile?

Dear Prudence, won’t you come out to play
Dear Prudence, greet the brand new day
The sun is up, the sky is blue
It’s beautiful and so are you
Dear Prudence won’t you come out to play
